Tuesday’s news that the PGA Tour is in agreement with the DP World Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF)—the financial backer of LIV Golf—in a landmark merger deal shocked the the golf world. Yes, a fair share of outrage poured out across the internet—but so did some pretty hilarious memes. 

There is plenty of anger around the announcement, as the PGA Tour was at odds with LIV Golf—a competitor—and led to multiple lawsuits between the two sides. Not to mention, PGA golfers were urged to not take huge lump sums of money to jump ship out of loyalty and morality concerns, but now it appears the PGA Tour did just that. This shocking twist is extremely similar to that of Succession’s final season, which aired its finale on May 28, and fans noticed. 

Rory McIlroy, a noted critic of the Saudi golf league, was the butt of many jokes on Twitter Tuesday morning comparing him to the character Kendall Roy on the HBO hit show. The drama revolves around Roy and his siblings’ climb for power—something that often leaves them falling flat on their face—and the internet just couldn’t help but make the comparison as McIlroy finds himself betrayed.
