Phil Mickelson Trolls Rory McIlroy Over Latest PGA Schedule Comments

Rory McIlroy’s 2023 season has been underwhelming, as he missed cuts at both the Masters and The Players Championship, and has only finished top 10 twice in seven tournaments.
When asked at The Memorial Tournament about whether he had enough of an offseason to work on his swing, McIlroy mentioned he would have liked more time.
“I think these things were creeping in at the end of 2022 probably, and that’s why we’ve all been advocating for an offseason,” he said. “It’s very hard to try to play your best golf when really thinking about your golf swing.”
If that sounds somewhat familiar, that’s because having more time away from the course is among the advantages cited when Mickelson and other top golfers joined LIV Golf last year. With LIV off this weekend, Mickelson had time to needle McIlroy, arguing he needs to join LIV more than LIV needs him.
“As worn out as McIlroy was after the Masters and his need for an off season, LIV would be perfect for him,” he tweeted. “Problem is I don’t think there’s a team that wants him on it because they’d have to deal with all his bs.”

After McIlroy finished the Masters, he withdrew from the RBC Heritage the following weekend for personal reasons despite being fined. Mickelson, meanwhile, outperformed McIlroy at the Masters, but has yet to finish top 10 in a LIV event this year including just two top 25 finishes.
