TaylorMade Delivers a Full Bag of Pitch-Perfect British Open Gear
This week's British Open marks the end of the major championship year in the men's game, which means one last chance for equipment companies to show off creative designs specifically made for the event.
TaylorMade as usual hit a home run with its offerings for the Open, with a bag, headcovers and even golf balls unique to Royal Liverpool.
The items are available on TaylorMade's website and here's what makes them special to the 151st Open:
Staff bag: TaylorMade's yellow staff bags will be impossible to miss on your screens all weekend, modeled after the trademark Open yellow scoreboards. But there's much more to this bag than just the color.
A wave pattern on the sides symbolizes the River Mersey, which divides the Wirral Peninsula (where Royal Liverpool resides) from mainland Britain. The peninsula itself is outlined behind the bag handle. Also, the "TaylorMade" on each side is in a different font for the two rival soccer clubs which play annually in the Merseyside Derby—which is also mentioned in the blue accent on the bag's top.
The blue accent on the bottom mentions the local Cranleigh and Charterhouse schools, whose students operate the scoreboard. Also, scoreboard-style numbers "271" and "270" are on the bag to signify winning scores by Rory McIlroy (2014) and Tiger Woods (2006), the two most recent winners at Royal Liverpool.
Wood covers: Driver, fairway and rescue covers are available, all in green. The driver and fairway covers have a clock at the top in homage to the starter's clock on the first tee.
Putter covers: Available for blade and Spider models, the putter covers are in yellow (matching the bag) and have a rubber patchwork design similar to the Open scoreboards.
TP5 "Pix" balls: TaylorMade's popular Pix balls have the starter's clock as well as "CLI" instead of a number: the Roman numeral for 151, for the 151st Open.
