Wyndham Clark Moves Into Lead as Round 2 Under Way at U.S. Open

LOS ANGELES — On Thursday at the U.S. Open, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele set U.S. Open records with opening rounds of 8-under 62.
By the time they teed off Friday, they weren't leading anymore.
Wyndham Clark, a 29-year-old veteran pro who picked up his first PGA Tour win last month, shot a 3-under 67 in the second round to move to 9 under and the clubhouse lead at the conclusion of the morning wave.
"The fairways are pretty wide out here, you can just bomb it. Plays to my advantage," he said. "My putter's been hot, so I've been kind of riding that."

Clark shot 6-under 64 yesterday in a very un-U.S. Open-like first round which featured the two record 62s and 37 players in all shooting under par.
Rory McIlroy got to 8 under with a Friday 67. Harris English was a shot back at 7 under with the same second-round score. Min Woo Lee had the low round of the early starters with 5-under 65 and was in a tie for sixth at 6 under.
Also at 6 under was Dustin Johnson followed an opening 64 with a grinding even-par 70. On the 2nd hole he made a quadruple-bogey 8 and worked the rest of the round to get the shots back. With a birdie at the 18th, he had crawled back to even and 6 under overall.
Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick stood at 1 over for the U.S. Open after an even-par 70 which included a hole in one at the short par-3 15th, his first ace on the PGA Tour.

The low 60 and ties make the cut for the weekend.
