Host Ann Liguori digs into the archives to find a 1992 interview with Gale Sayers, the legendary Chicago Bears running back who died last week. Sayers, a Pro Football Hall of Fame selection despite playing only 68 games spanning seven seasons in a career cut short by injury, talks about his career and his preparations for life after football. Sayers also discusses “Brian’s Song,” the 1971 film based on Sayers’ friendship with teammate Brian Piccolo, who died of cancer in 1970. Sayers also recalls longtime Bears coach George Halas and hall-of-famers Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, and a surprising revelation about how much more satisfying his post-football career was to him. “I had to plan for a life after football,” Sayers says.
