Bryson DeChambeau does his best to bring myrmecology – that’s the study of ants, to those of you who aren’t entomologists – to the PGA Tour, which prompts Alex Miceli to scratch an itch regarding the Rules of Golf. “The rules are there to help you,” Miceli says, before he disparages the “burrowing-animal hole” escape hatch. Ultimately, as we know, DeChambeau got what was coming to him at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational, and it wasn’t relief from any ant, real or imagined. But how does that aggressive interpretation of the rules compare with the spectator-provided relief that Tiger Woods got from an intrusive boulder at the 1999 Phoenix Open? Miceli has some thoughts that have been bugging him all weekend.
