On the eve of the general election in the U.S., Alex Miceli makes the point that “sports and politics are intertwined.” Miceli, the publisher and co-founder of Morning Read, points to the Olympics as far back as the 1936 Berlin Games. These days, athletes at the highest levels of virtually every major professional sport are speaking out on social issues, yet golf has remained largely silent. “Maybe we need to be giving golf a little swift kick in the you-know-where and start talking about these issues,” said Miceli, who recently questioned Jack Nicklaus’ endorsement of President Donald Trump. “To suggest that Morning Read should be quiet about issues that affect, not everyone else, but also golfers, I think, is just unfair.”
