The Ponies jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Luca Jarvis and Jonas Kohn. Stillwater was rewarded for its efforts in the first period, but the same can’t be said for the Cadets in the second and third period.
St. Thomas Academy shot puck after puck at Stillwater goalie Cal Conway, but he saved them all. Conway finished with 36 saves on the night.
"Everyone can see he’s a great goaltender," Stillwater's Blake Vanek said. "Each game he plays, he battles as hard as anybody I’ve ever seen back there. He’s got so much confidence. I’ve never seen a player with more confidence than him."

“We didn’t like our second period at all,” Stillwater coach Greg Zanon said. “We don’t really have an answer for what happened, but our second period definitely wasn’t what we wanted. [Conway] stood on his head in there for us.”
Trey Fredenburg scored the third goal for the Ponies on a rebound, and Vanek scored the empty-net goal.
“Our guys kept believing, but sometimes mistakes can cost you,” St. Thomas Academy Mark Strobel said.
Stillwater advances to its first state championship game in program history. The Ponies will play the winner of Moorhead vs. Edina on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center.
