Zivo wins Belmont's Commentator Handicap

NEW YORK (AP) Zivo extended his winning streak to five in the $200,000 Commentator Handicap on Saturday at Belmont Park.

The Commentator capped New York Showcase Day, a 10-race card devoted to horses bred in the state.

Zivo, a 5-year-old trained by Chad Brown, paid $4.70, $3.20 and $3.00 as he uncorked a furious rally from 13th to edge Big Business by a neck. It was one of four wins on day for jockey Jose Ortiz.

''I saw Big Business was ahead by three lengths when I got clear,'' Ortiz said. ''I thought maybe I wouldn't get there. I kept riding, and he kept flying.''

The time was 1:34.11 for the mile on the fast track.

Big Business returned $10.80 and $6.70 while Weekend Hideaway paid $7.90 to show.

Ortiz was also aboard La Verdad, winner of the Critical Eye, the $200,000 companion event for fillies and mares. She paid $2.80 to win as the 2-5 favorite.

The other winners of the $125,000 stakes were: Isabelle in the Bouwerie for 3-year-old fillies, Karafa in the Kingston on the turf, Mah Jong Madness in the Mount Vernon for fillies and mares on the turf and Captain Serious in the Mike Lee for sprinters.
