ASCOT, England (AP) The Fugue spoiled the highly anticipated English debut of Treve and set a track record in winning the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
Magician was a length and three quarters back in second, and Treve a clear third.
Treve, the overwhelming 8-13 favorite in her debut outside of France, surged from sixth down the home straight but could not catch The Fugue.
The English filly, owned and bred by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and his wife Madeleine, and off at odds of 11-2, sat in the group before making an unobstructed move to the front.
Jockey William Buick says, ''When she gets an uncongregated run like she did today, she's lethal.''
Treve's finish left trainer Criquette Head-Maarek perplexed.
He says, ''Her action was not right today, and I don't know why. She didn't please me. Something must have been wrong with her.''
