Pure Sensation wins $100K Quick Call at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) Pure Sensation overcame a tough trip to nail Choctaw Chuck at the wire Thursday and win the $100,000 Quick Call by a nose at Saratoga Race Course.

A 3-year-old son of Zensational and trained by Christophe Clement, Pure Sensation ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:01.82 on the main turf course and returned $9.30, $5.80 and $3.90. Choctaw Chuck paid $14.80 and $6.20, and Favorite Tale was another nose back in third, returning $4.20.

Pure Sensation is owned by Patricia Generazio. The Quick Call was career victory No. 1,999 for jockey Jose Lezcano.

In the first steeplechase stakes of the meet, Awesome Pearl won a stretch duel with Kingdom to take the $75,000 Jonathan Kiser Novice by a nose.

The 5-year-old son of Awesome Again paid $72, $24 and $12.80. Kingdom returned $9.40 and $7.50, while Sporty paid $13.40 for third. Final time for 2 1/16 miles was 3:48.26.
