Rainbow Heir romps to victory in Monmouth feature

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) Rainbow Heir drew off in the stretch to beat Partyallnightlong by 12 1/2 lengths in in the $60,000 New Jersey Breeders' Handicap on Saturday at Monmouth Park.

Trained by Ben Perkins Jr. and ridden by Angel Serpa, the 4-year-old colt ran six furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:09 4-5 and paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10. It was the seventh victory in 11 career starts for Rainbow Heir, who has earned $317,000 overall.

Perkins had another stakes win earlier in the card, when Maybe Tonight overtook Long Blooming Rose in the stretch and went on to win the $60,000 Jersey Girl Handicap. Ridden by Paco Lopez, the 4-year-old filly ran 1 1/16 miles over a fast track in 1:45 1-5 and paid $6.20, $3.80 and $2.80.
