NEW YORK (AP) Salutos Amigos could be a late entrant in the Breeders' Cup following Saturday's victory in the $200,000 Bold Ruler Handicap at Belmont Park.

The 4-year-old gelding was pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup Sprint on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita. The Breeders' Cup seemed out of range when trainer David Jacobson opted to stay home and run in the Bold Ruler.

The win so impressed Jacobson, a co-owner of the horse, that now he wants the $1.5 million Breeders' Cup prize. Jacobson says he ''was just waiting for a spectacular performance, and we got it.''

Salutos Amigos rallied to beat Confrontation by 3 1/4 lengths.
