NEW YORK (AP) Protonico rallied in the slop to win the $200,000 Discovery Handicap for 3-year-olds on Saturday at Aqueduct.

Joe Bravo was in the saddle for trainer Todd Pletcher as Protonico improved to 4 for 7 with his second stakes victory. He captured the Smarty Jones at Parx Racing in early September.

Seventh in the early stages, Protonico beat Bay of Plenty by 2 3/4 lengths as the 5-1 fourth choice.

The time was 1:51.92 for the 1 1/8 miles.

Protonico paid $13.60, $5.50 and $3.50. Bay of Plenty returned $3.50 and $3, and Just Call Kenny paid $4.40 to show.
