Toledo Eddie wins feature at Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) Toledo Eddie won the $51,416 feature Thursday by 1 1/4 lengths on opening day of the inaugural winter meet at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by apprentice Drayden Van Dyke, Toledo Eddie ran one mile in 1:34.89 and paid $4.60, $2.80 and $2.40 as the 13-10 favorite.

Got Even returned $3.40 and $3.20, while Durango Flier was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $15.60 to show at 61-1 odds in his first start since being gelded.

The victory increased Toledo Eddie's career earnings to $221,861, with nine wins in 28 starts.

Van Dyke won riding titles at the summer and fall meets this year at Los Alamitos, and the 20-year-old jockey is a leading candidate to win the Eclipse Award as the nation's top apprentice.

Van Dyke was one of seven different jockeys to win Thursday, with Martin Garcia winning two races.
