Salutos Amigos wins Big A's Gravesend Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) Salutos Amigos capped a successful campaign with a 2 1/2-length victory Friday in the $98,000 Gravesend Stakes at Aqueduct.

The 4-year-old gelding closed out his season with three stakes wins in the last four races. Besides the Gravesend, Salutos Amigos won the Bold Ruler Handicap at Belmont Park and the Fall Highweight Handicap at Aqueduct. His only loss in that span was a seventh-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita.

He went 6 for 14 this year, earning $599,000.

Irad Ortiz Jr. was aboard for trainer and co-owner David Jacobson as Salutos Amigos paid $4.40 and $2.60.

Mewannarose finished second, returning $3.90.

Dads Caps was third, followed by Green Gratto and Crafty Dreamer.

There was no show wagering on the five-horse field.

The time was 1:09.51 for the six furlongs on the fast track.
