Mega Heat wins feature at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Mega Heat rallied in the final sixteenth of a mile to win the $65,000 feature for older horses by a half-length Friday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Mega Heat ran a mile on the turf in 1:33.95 and paid $7.40, $3.60 and $3.

Hay Dude returned $4.60 and $3.80, while Little Jerry was another 4 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $4 to show.

Mega Heat showed he has no intentions of slowing down at age eight. He earned his 10th win in 22 career starts.

''This is like winning a stakes race,'' trainer Peter Eurton said. ''This is his tenth win and he's been with us since he was a 2-year-old. He's the old man in the barn, but he's acting like a two-year-old. He was bucking and playing in the paddock and he's just feeling good.''

Mega Heat is co-owned by skateboarder Rob Dyrdek.

''He's the one that started it (success in the horse business) all for me,'' said Dyrdek, who was mobbed by fans following the race. ''It's unbelievable that your very first horse would end up being so special and still doing so well for me this many years later. I'm very lucky. I've got a horse that keeps winning. He's like fine wine.''

The victory, worth $50,700, increased the gelding's career earnings to $437,500.
