Bench Warrant wins turf feature by a nose at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Bench Warrant won the $58,000 feature for 3-year-olds by a nose in his first try on turf Thursday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Tyler Baze, Bench Warrant ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside course in 1:13.19 and paid $6.20, $3.80 and $2.80 as the 2-1 second choice.

Jazzy Josh returned $5.20 and $3.60, while Diamond Majesty was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $4 to show.

The victory, worth $34,800, increased Bench Warrant's career earnings to $116,760. The Kentucky-bred colt was coming off a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity on Dec. 20 and took a steep drop in class by running in the cheap feature.
