ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Cyrus Alexander won the $58,000 feature for 3-year-olds by 2 1/2 lengths Thursday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Cyrus Alexander ran a mile in 1:36.42 and paid $5, $2.80 and $2.10 as the 3-2 favorite in a field of six.

Commute returned $3.60 and $2.80, while Rock Shandy was another length back in third and paid $2.40 to show.

Cyrus Alexander was purchased for $1.7 million at the Keeneland September yearling sale by Spendthrift Farm and Stonestreet Stables. The victory, worth $34,800, increased Cyrus Alexander's career earnings to $115,840, with two wins in seven starts.

Cyrus Alexander was a close third at the rail into the far turn, angled two-wide turning for home and overtook pacesetter Commute approaching the sixteenth pole.

''He doesn't like the inside, but he's learning,'' said Dan Ward, assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. ''He still doesn't know everything. He got the lead, he ducked in, he changed leads again. It's just taken him awhile. That's why we give him time in between races.''
