Manipulated, Saratoga Snacks win NY bred stakes at Belmont
NEW YORK (AP) Manipulated and Saratoga Snacks won the stakes for New York breds on Saturday at Belmont Park.
It was an impressive debut for Manipulated in the $125,000 Rockville Center for 2-year-olds.
Racing like a seasoned pro, the colt trained by Jimmy Jerkens rallied to beat Lucky Lure by four lengths as the even-money favorite. Luis Saez was aboard for six furlongs in 1:12.67. He paid $4 to win.
Saratoga Snacks took the $98,000 Saginaw by three quarters of a length over Empire Dreams. The 6-year-old owned and trained by Gary Sciacca and ridden by John Velazquez improved to 9 for 21. He paid $3.80 to win as the 4-5 favorite. The time was 1:43.98 for 1 1/16 miles.
