SALOU, Spain (AP) World champion Sebastien Ogier extended his lead of the Rally of Spain after nearest chaser Jari-Matti Latvala crashed on Saturday.

The Frenchman steered his Volkswagen Polo through the day's eight asphalt stages to increase his overnight advantage from 4 to 54 seconds with one day left in the northeastern region of Catalonia.

Ogier led by 10 seconds after two stages before Latvala hit a concrete block and broke a wheel.

Ogier said ''the car was perfect so it was fantastic to drive these great stages.''

Ogier clinched his third consecutive world title at the Rally Australia last month.

Drivers face six more asphalt stages on Sunday.
