Uzziel wins $200,000 Goldikova Stakes at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Uzziel led all the way to win the $200,000 Goldikova Stakes for older fillies and mares by 2 1/4 lengths Sunday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Kent Desormeaux, Uzziel ran a mile on turf in 1:34.77 and paid $15.40, $6 and $5. Desormeaux's brother, Keith, trains the 4-year-old filly.

''Keith told me that the way to win with her was to just let her roll,'' said Kent Desormeaux, who dismounted outside the winner's circle.

''She tripped on me just after the wire, then she seemed to be limping (on the gallop out). After that incident, she seemed fine.''

Queen of the Sand returned $6 and $2.60, while Gender Agenda was another nose back in third and paid $3.60 to show.

The victory, worth $120,000, increased Uzziel's career earnings to $457,488, with six wins in 20 starts.

Elektrum, the even-money favorite, finished fourth in the field of six.
