Goldy Espony wins Big A's Long Island Handicap

NEW YORK (AP) Goldy Espony beat Danza Cavallo as Chad Brown saddled the first two finishers in the $200,000 Long Island Handicap on Saturday at Aqueduct.

Brown sent out three runners in the stakes for fillies and mares on the turf.

The only one who failed to fire was Rosalind who checked in ninth.

Goldy Espony improved to 3 for 3 in 1 1/2 mile grass races. As usual, she did it on the lead.

Kendrick Carmouche guided the gray 4-year-old right to the front from her rail position, and Goldy Espony took it from there.

She held off her stablemate by 1 1/4 lengths, paying $9.40, $5.20 and $4 as the 7/2 second choice. Danza Cavallo, favored at 3-1, returned $3.80 and $3.10. Gotachancetodance paid $5.20 to show.

The time was 2:31.10 over the firm course.
