Mr Maybe rallies to win Big A's Red Smith Handicap

NEW YORK (AP) Mr Maybe rallied for a decisive victory Saturday in the $250,000 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct, the last major grass stakes of the season in New York.

Last in the eight-horse field for the first three quarters of a mile, Mr Maybe ran home for a 4 1/4 length win over Kaigun.

Mr Maybe is 2 for 2 since transferring to trainer Chad Brown. He was 2 for 11 before the switch. The strong move after sitting behind a slow pace stamped the 4-year-old gray gelding as an emerging force in the turf division.

Irad Ortiz Jr. was aboard for the 1 3/8 miles over the course labeled firm despite heavy rain earlier in the week.

Mr Maybe, the 2-1 favorite, paid $6.80, $4.20 and $3.40. Kaigun returned $4.90 and $3.60 and Holiday Star paid $6.70 to show.
