Chiropractor wins Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Chiropractor rallied between horses entering the stretch to overhaul even-money favorite Om and then held off March by a head to win the $300,000 Hollywood Derby for 3-year-olds Saturday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Chiropractor ran nine furlongs on turf in 1:4887 and paid $30.80, $18 and $6 at 14-1 odds in the Grade 1 race that was the colt's stakes debut.

March returned $14.80 and $6.80, while 4-5 favorite Om was another half-length back in third and paid $2.60 to show.

The victory, worth $180,000, increased Chiropractor's career earnings to $273,100, with three wins in seven starts for 96-year-old owner Leonard Lavin who races as Glen Hill Farm.

In the $100,000 Jimmy Durante Stakes for 2-year-old fillies, Lavin's Family Meeting rallied from far back to win by three-quarters of a length.

Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, Family Meeting ran a mile on turf in 1:37.14 and paid $76.60, $33.60 and $13.80 at 37-1 odds.

Mokat returned $8 and $6.80, while Sutton's Smile was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $8.20 to show. Riri, the 2-1 favorite, finished 10th, losing for the first time in three career races.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Family Meeting's career earnings to $84,840 with two wins in three starts.

In the $150,000 Native Diver Stakes for older horses, Dortmund won by 4 1/2 lengths for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Gary Stevens, Dortmund ran nine furlongs in 1:48.06 and paid $3.20, $2.60 and $2.10.

Imperative returned $3.60 and $2.10, while Iron Fist was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $2.10 to show.

The victory, worth $90,000, increased Dortmund's career earnings to $1,712,480. The colt was sidelined earlier this year after finishing third in the Kentucky Derby and fourth in the Preakness. Dortmund earned his second victory since returning, and his eighth in 10 career starts.
