Coastline rallies to win Clockers' Corner by 1 1/4 lengths
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Coastline came flying up the rail to take command inside the sixteenth pole and win the $75,000 Clockers' Corner Stakes for older horses by 1 1/4 lengths Sunday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Tyler Baze, Coastline ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:12.68 and paid $12.20, $5.20 and $3.80.
Rocket Heat returned $3.80 and $3.20 as the 5-2 favorite in the field of 10.
England-bred Cape Wolfe was another half-length back in third and paid $7.60 to show
The victory, worth $46,800, increased Coastline's career earnings to $336,806, with five wins in 19 starts. The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred was coming off a second-place finish in the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes on turf last month.
''It looked like it was going to be close, but this horse is such a fighter,'' trainer Phil D'Amato said. ''Once he got his head in there, he just inched away and gave a good performance.''
