NEW YORK (AP) Championofthenile rolled to a pacesetting victory Friday in his season debut in the $57,000 allowance feature for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct.

Jose Ortiz was aboard as the 4/5 favorite scored a comfortable three-length win over 34-1 outsider Saratoga Giro in the race for New York breds.

The colt trained by Linda Rice ran six furlongs in 1:11.83 for his second win in five starts.

Championofthenile paid $3.60, $3.10 and $2.50.

Saratoga Giro returned $17.20 and $9.30, and Gehrig paid $7.30 to show.
