Blown away: Aqueduct cancels due to high winds

NEW YORK (AP) Aqueduct has canceled the Sunday card due to high winds in the New York area.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning in effect until 2 p.m. with gusts up to 60 miles per hour anticipated. Track management and the jockeys met and decided to cancel in the interests of safety.

''We were hoping the wind would die down in time for racing this afternoon,'' senior vice president of racing operations Martin Panza said.

The Sunday feature, the $200,000 Top Flight Handicap, will be rescheduled.

Both Aqueduct and Belmont Park remained open for simulcast betting on races from other regions.
