Dante wins Dexter Cup for 3-year-old trotters

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) Dante took the lead at the start in 1 3/4-length victory Saturday in the $140,800 Dexter Cup at Freehold Raceway.

Driven and trained by Ake Svanstadt, Dante trotted the mile for 3-year-olds in 1:59.4. It was the second win in four starts for the colt owned by Courant AB of Sweden.

The only challenge Dante received came from stablemate Dominion Beach, who overcame a break at the start to get within a neck of the leader after three-quarters of a mile.

Dominion Beach tired at that point and finished fifth.

Dante paid $4.20, $2.40 and $2.20. Cufflink Hanover returned $2.60 and $2.40, and Credevie paid $5 to show.
