Home Run Kitten wins American Stakes at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Home Run Kitten won the $100,000 American Stakes by a half-length Friday after the race was moved from turf to dirt because of heavy rain at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Home Run Kitten ran a mile in 1:35.30 and paid $30.40, $10.20 and $3.60 at 14-1 odds.

Little Curlin returned $6.80 and $3.40, while 6-5 favorite Twentytwentyvision was another half-length back in third and paid $2.40 to show. The field was reduced to six after three late scratches because of the surface change.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Home Run Kitten's career earnings to $402,645, with five wins in 18 starts for the 5-year-old Kentucky-bred. It was just his second race on dirt and first on an off-track.
