Turco Bravo rallies to take Flat Out Stakes at Belmont Park
NEW YORK (AP) Turco Bravo rallied to beat Securitiz by 1 1/4 lengths Sunday in the $100,000 Flat Out Stakes at Belmont Park.
It was the 13th win in 50 starts for the durable 7-year-old trained by Gary Contessa who said the next target for the gelding from Chile will be the $400,000 Brooklyn Invitational here on June 11.
This was his third U.S. victory, all in stakes, since arriving in 2014.
''He was a top South American horse when we bought him,'' Contessa said. ''We thought he'd do well in races like this and, once in a while, you get it right.''
Javier Castellano was aboard for the 1 3/8 miles in 2:15.73.
Turco Bravo paid $10, $4.80 and $2.70. Securitiz returned $4 and $2.70 as the 9-5 favorite, and Neck `n Neck paid $2.90 to show.
