Paging F. Scott Fitzgerald: Jay Gatsby wins Belmont feature

NEW YORK (AP) Jay Gatsby rallied for a 1 1/2- length victory Friday in the $85,000 allowance feature on the turf at Belmont Park.

Fifth in early stages, Jay Gatsby swung four wide at the top of the stretch and reeled in the pacesetting Long On Value for his fourth win in 12 starts.

Javier Castellano rode for trainer Jimmy Jerkens as the gray 4-year-old ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:39.37 over the firm course.

Jay Gatsby, favored at 5/2, paid $7.50, $3.70 and $2.70.

Long On Value fought on to get second, returning $4 and $2.80. Blacktype paid $2.80 to show.
