Theonewewaitedfor wins Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Theonewewaitedfor outran 3-5 favorite Miss Southern Miss through the stretch to win the $125,000 Landaluce Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by 2 3/4 lengths Saturday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Theonewewaitedfor ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.82 and paid $8, $3 and $2.60.
Miss Southern Miss returned $2.40 and $2.10, while Demigoddess was another 5 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $6.20 to show.
Chalon, the 2-1 second choice, was scratched by the stewards with three minutes to post.
The victory, worth $75,000, increased Theonewewaitedfor's career earnings to $118,680, with two wins in as many starts.
''I'm speechless,'' trainer Mike Harrington said. ''I named her and when I did, I told the owner, this is the one we've waited for. She's always been the best filly in the barn.''
In the $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes for 2-year-olds, California Diamond wheeled three-wide turning for home and went on to win by three-quarters of a length.
Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, California Diamond ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.54 and paid $15.20, $5 and $3.
Green With Eddie returned $3.80 and $2.60 as the 2-1 favorite. Silver Assault was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $2.60 to show.
The victory, worth $75,000, increased California Diamond's career earnings to $108,600, with two wins in as many starts for trainer John Brocklebank.
California Diamond goes on the sale block next Friday at Del Mar.
