Mo Soul wins I'm Smokin' Stakes for 2-year-olds at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Mo Soul won the $150,345 I'm Smokin' Stakes for California-bred 2-year-olds by 1 1/4 lengths Friday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Thiago Pereira, Mo Soul ran six furlongs in 1:10.21 and paid $43.20, $12.40 and $6.40 at 20-1 odds.

California Diamond returned $3 and $2.40 as the 13-10 favorite. Rinse and Repeat was another five lengths back in third and paid $4.80 to show.

The victory was worth $85,500 to Mo Soul, who won his career debut on June 19 at Santa Anita but had been idle since then.

It was trainer Terry Knight's first stakes win at Del Mar since 1998.
