Wake Up in Malibu wins Belmont feature; Keen Ice 3rd

NEW YORK (AP) Wake Up in Malibu won the $80,000 allowance feature Friday at Belmont Park, spoiling the return of Keen Ice.

The front-running score by Wake Up in Malibu was the sixth in 19 starts for the 5-year-old gelding trained by Charlton Baker and ridden by Manny Franco.

Keen Ice, the even-money favorite, rallied from seventh to get third in his first start since March, a 12th-place finish in the Dubai World Cup.

Since then, he was sidelined with left hind leg injury and was transferred from trainer Dale Romans to Todd Pletcher.

Keen Ice is best known for his upset of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah last summer in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga.

The time was 1:33.27 for the mile. Wake Up in Malibu paid $9.20, $4.20 and $2.60.

Adulator was second, trailing the winner by 1 1/4 lengths. He returned $3.20 and $2.10.

Keen Ice paid $2.20 to show.
