Hemsworth gets 1st victory in Aqueduct's Nashua Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) Hemsworth won the $200,000 Nashua Stakes by 9+ lengths Friday for his first victory at Aqueduct.

The colt trained by Tom Albertrani was making his third start in the Big A's opening day feature. His job was simplified when both Han Sense and Capitaine, the 1/5 favorite, stumbled coming out of the gate.

That gave Hemsworth and jockey Antonio Gallardo an easy path to the winner's circle in the four-horse field of 2-year-olds.

The time was 1:38.70 for the mile.

Hemsworth paid $14 and $11.20 for the 6-1 upset.

Han Sense recovered to get second, returning $6.50.

Capitaine was third followed by Boys From Boston.

There was no show wagering.
