13-1 shot Defiantly wins Let It Ride Stakes at Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Defiantly rallied through the stretch to overhaul Mittersill and win the $80,445 Let It Ride Stakes for 3-year-olds by a neck Saturday at Del Mar.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Gary Stevens, Defiantly ran a mile on turf in 1:34.80 and paid $29.60, $10.80 and $4.80 at 13-1 odds, the longest shot in the field.
Mittersill returned $3.80 and $3, while Camino Del Paraiso was another half-length back in third and paid $4.20 to show.
Curlin Rules, the 8-5 favorite, faded to fourth.
Trained by Craig Dollase, Defiantly gave Stevens his 94th career stakes victory at the seaside track, tying him with Bill Shoemaker for sixth all-time.
The victory, worth $46,440, increased Defiantly's career earnings to $110,685, with two wins in seven races.
