Yankees TV Voice Michael Kay Not Retiring From Radio Show

The team’s play-by-play announcer will continue his radio show after signing a lucrative extension with ESPN.

Yankees television voice Michael Kay, who has also hosted a longtime ESPN New York radio show in the New York metropolitan area for over two decades, will continue his weekday radio show after contemplating retirement, he announced on his show on Thursday.

Reports of Kay considering ending his radio show after 21 years was first reported by the New York Post, but in the end, the contract extension offer from ESPN was too much to pass up, and The Michael Kay Show will continue.

“When the story in The Post came out, I was pretty certain that was going to be it and I would leave the show after 21 years in September,” Kay said. “It had been a great run. A long run. I just said ‘That’s it. I’m probably too old to do it.’”

Instead, Kay will continue his radio show for what The Post is reporting as a multi-year deal worth in the seven-figures per year. It will continue to be simulcast on YES, the television home for Yankees baseball.

Kay will also continue his current role as the TV voice for the Yankees.
