College GameDay Host Rece Davis Shares Touching Message for David Pollack

David Pollack was one of nearly two-dozen ESPN on-air personalities laid off on Friday as part of the network’s downsizing and reorganization.

The longtime college football analyst spent 14 years on College GameDay, becoming a familiar face to fans on Saturdays during college football season. As the show transitions into a new phase, College GameDay host Rece Davis tweeted a heartfelt message to his former colleague.

“Class personified. I’ve joked for years that @davidpollack47 is the little brother I never wanted. Truth is, he’s as good a man & as good a friend as I could’ve ever hoped for. He’s a brother to me for life. He’s a man of God. He’s a selfless teammate, an exemplary family man,” Davis tweeted.

Pollack joined ESPN after a noteworthy career at Georgia but a shortened NFL career due to a broken neck. After Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported the news on Friday, Pollack confirmed it, thanking those who he had the opportunity to work with and revealed that his plans going forward remain unknown.

“… I have no clue what’s next in my life, but one thing God’s shown me all along the way is that He is for me, He is not against me. NFL, broke my neck, career’s over, find TV, found coaching over the last couple years. Found speaking in the last couple years, so I know God’s got something amazing for me,” Pollack said Friday in a video message.

As of now, the rest of the College GameDay crew—that includes Davis, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee—remains the same.
