Robbie Hummel Leaving ESPN for Deal With Fox, NBC
ESPN college basketball analyst Robbie Hummel is leaving the network to work for NBC and Fox Sports, according to Andrew Marchand of The New York Post.
Hummel, who spent six years at ESPN calling Big Ten basketball games, is leaving the network due to changes in media rights deals. ESPN distributed Big Ten broadcasts for 40 years but will no longer air the league’s games starting in the 2023-24 season.
As a result, Hummel will become part of NBC’s weekly coverage of Big Ten basketball games. Hummel is slated to broadcast contests aired on Tuesdays, according to the Post.
In addition to his NBC deal, the 34-year-old will call games for Fox and FS1 and continue his role with the Big Ten Network. Hummel played five seasons at Purdue, earning All-Big Ten honors three times and honorable mention All-America recognition twice.
After his tenure at Purdue, the Timberwolves drafted Hummel in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft. However, injuries limited his play and later ended his NBA career. Hummel played professionally in Italy and Russia before retiring from basketball to the broadcast booth in ’17.
