The move is retroactive to July 11.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Friday in Miami that Cain's elbow "has been cranky" lately. Cain is 2-7 with 4.18 ERA this season and has lost five of his last six starts.

The Giants are tied for the National League West lead with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
