Yankees trade for third baseman Chase Headley

The Yankee have acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the San Diego Padres.

The Yankees have acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the San Diego Padres, the team announced Tuesday.

The Padres will get infielder Yangervis Solarte and minor league pitcher Rafael De Paula from the Yankees. Jon Heyman of CBSSports reports that​ San Diego will also send $1 million to New York.

Headley has not had a great offensive year, batting just .229 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs.

Solarte's 2014 numbers are similar. The infielder is batting .254 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 75 games with the Yankees this season.

Headley will be a free agent after this season.
