Cubs' Anthony Rizzo promises home run, delivers two for cancer patient

You might remember that Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit two home runs against the Padres on Tuesday night, giving him an NL-leading 25 on the season. It turns out those homers were for more than just Chicago.

Rizzo recently met with a Cubs fan diagnosed with leukemia, and the fan asked the breakout star to hit a home run for him. Rizzo, a survivor of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, did the fan one better.

As described by Cubs play-by-play announcer Len Kasper, Rizzo told the fan he’d make a special gesture as he crossed home plate, which he did on both of his longballs. And to make it even better, the homers came one day before the fan’s 22nd birthday.
