Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado went down Monday night with a right knee sprain suffered mid-swing, according to CBS Sports.

Machado swung at a pitch and immediately buckled, falling to the ground clutching his right knee. He was helped off the field and into the dugout by Orioles training staff. Chris Davis replaced Machado in the game.

The injury did not take place on his left knee, and therefore was not a re-aggravation of an injury that sidelined him last season and delayed the start of Machado's 2014 campaign.

The 21-year-old Machado is batting .277 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs in 81 appearances this season. The Orioles entered play Monday night five games atop the American League East Division.
