Orioles third baseman Manny Machado was diagnosed with a right knee ligament sprain after an MRI on Tuesday, the team announced.

But the Orioles said an update on Machado's condition won't be available until Wednesday. The team's scheduled game Tuesday night against the Yankees was rained out.

The 22-year-old, who had left knee surgery in the offseason that caused him to start his 2014 season on May 1, injured his right knee while swinging in Monday night's game. The knee appeared to buckle as he hit a broken-bat grounder to short.

Machado did not speak to the media Tuesday night, as most of the players left due to the early rainout, but manager Buck Showalter said the team has hotel rooms for Friday's game in Cleveland for Machado and shortstop J.J. Hardy, who has a left thumb injury.

Machado, a 2013 All-Star, is hitting .278 with 12 homers and 32 RBIs in 82 games this season.
