The Oakland Athletics Sunday claimed Rays' shortstop Yunel Escobar on waivers according to Fox Sports' baseball reporter Ken Rosenthal.

The Rays placed Escobar on revocable waivers, meaning Tampa Bay can either reclaim Escobar or work out a trade with the Athletics that sends Escobar to Oakland. If Tampa Bay chooses the second option, Rosenthal reports, it must complete the deal by 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Escobar is hitting .249 over 111 games this season with four home runs and 31 runs batted in, and battled right shoulder problems in June and July. The 32-year-old shortstop is owed $13 million across 2015 and 2016.
Oakland shortstop Jed Lowrie is on the 15-day disabled list with a hairline fracture in his right finger, and the team recently traded away super-prospect shortstop Addison Russell in a deal that landed them Cubs' pitcher Jeff Samardzija.
