Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia said that Jered Weaver will be his starter for Game 1 of the American League Division Series.

Weaver will pitch two more times in the regular season: Saturday against the Texas Rangers and next Friday against the Seattle Mariners. The Angels open their ALDS on Oct. 2.

"The way he threw the ball last time, you could see his stuff has been coming, and I think he'll maintain it," Scioscia said of Weaver, according to MLB.com. "But I don't think it's ever a bad thing getting an extra day."

The Angels will have home-field advantage in the ALDS, where they are currently scheduled to face the winner of the AL Wild Card game.

Weaver is 17-8 with a 3.50 ERA in 200 1/3 innings this season for Los Angeles, who have a 2 1/2-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles for the best record in the AL.
