Life Comes Next Moment: Dodgers to hire Farhan Zaidi as GM
Wednesday November 5th, 2014

Oakland Athletics executive Farhan Zaidi will be named the general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers later in the week, Ken Gurnick of reports.

Last season, Zaidi served as the A’s assistant general manager and director of baseball operations. He has been with the club since 2004.

On Oct. 14, the Dodgers named former Tampa Bay Rays executive Andrew Friedman the president of baseball operations. At the same time, it was announced that Ned Colletti, the Dodgers' general manager from 2006-2014 was moved to a senior advisor position in the front office.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times confirmed Gurnick's report, and also reported that former Padres and Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes will be a senior executive with the club.

In an offseason profile of Zaidi, A's director of player personnel Billy Owens told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that Zaidi had a future as a general manager.

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

"He's engaging, he's able to look at baseball from every angle, consider every element, and he has great leadership skills," Owens said. "He should be an emerging GM candidate for sure."
