The Milwaukee Brewers have placed outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Friday.

Gomez was found to have a "small defect" in his right hamstring when he was examined on Thursday, assistant general manager Gord Ash said.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury during Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He said he felt a "pop" in the lower half of his hamstring in the ninth inning when he ran to first base.

A doctor gave Gomez a cortisone shot on Thursday to speed his healing, and Ash said he will be evaluated during the team's next homestand, which begins Monday.

In eight games this season, Gomez is hitting .235 with one home run and six RBIs. He hit .284 last season with 23 homers and 73 RBIs for Milwaukee.
