The Chicago Cubs will call up top prospect Kris Bryant on Friday, according to an ESPN Chicago report that Bryant confirmed Thursday night via Twitter

Chicago took the University of San Diego star with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft.

During the 2014 minor league season, which he spent between Double A Tennessee and Triple A Iowa, Bryant hit .325 with 43 home runs and 110 RBI.

Bryant has continued his torrid hitting in 2015 as well. He hit nine home runs for the Cubs during spring training, but the team started him in Triple A at the beginning of the 2015 season despite pressure to add Bryant to the opening day MLB roster.

In six games so far with Iowa this season, Bryant has eight hits, including two home runs, and seven RBI.

Bryant was ranked in the preseason as the No. 1 overall prospect in baseball according to Baseball America.
